Heart break or a broken dream!

Maybe we don't actually get heartbroken…

Maybe our hearts never break at all.

Maybe what breaks are the dreams our hearts create.

Our hearts are dream-makers. They take our love, our longing, our creative energy, our desire, and they weave a vision of what could be. A relationship. A future. A life. A possibility.

And then we begin to live inside that dream.

So when the relationship ends, or life changes direction, or something happens that makes that future impossible, what shatters isn't the heart itself.

It's the dream.

And we feel it in our bodies because we have become intertwined with that dream.

Our hearts ache because they wanted nothing more than to bring that dream into fruition. To see it ripen. To taste its fruit. To be nourished by what they had imagined and created.

But when the dream dies before it bears fruit, we never get to receive that nourishment. We never get to taste what we thought was coming.

That's the ache.

Not a broken heart.

A broken dream.

And maybe the work of life is not learning how to protect our hearts from dreaming.

Maybe it's learning how to keep dreaming.

To become strong enough to birth another dream after one has fallen away.

Because some dreams take root.

Some dreams flourish.

And some dreams fall on barren ground.

The warrior of the heart isn't the one who never loses a dream.

The warrior of the heart is the one who keeps dreaming anyway.

Who keeps opening.

Who keeps creating.

Who keeps trusting life enough to plant another seed.

And sometimes we miss another truth.

Sometimes the dream actually arrives.

The fruit ripens.

But because it doesn't look exactly the way we imagined, we don't fully receive it.

We don't stop.

We don't savour it.

We don't let it nourish us.

We look at the fruit and tell ourselves it should have been different.

And so we never truly eat it.

Maybe a full heart isn't a heart that gets everything it dreams of.

Maybe it's a heart that learns how to grieve the dreams that didn't grow, and fully receive the ones that did.

Because your heart was never broken.

It is still dreaming.
